About Me:
My name is Michael Silverstein. I am a senior at Temple University, double majoring in Management Information Systems and Accounting. I’m 37 years old with 20 years of restaurant experience. This includes 10 years in management with 3 years as Operations Manager for Table 95 Hospitality in the Philadelphia market. This is where I learned basic managerial and cost accounting. I taught our management teams at each location how to use CTuit management software, Micros-Oracle point of sales systems, and Microsoft Excel for pricing, forecasting, inventory management, and generating managerial accounting reports. I reviewed these reports with our COO and controller, returned summaries to each location, and helped the General Managers create and implement operational standards to respond to positive and negative reports.
I gained significant practical experience but when Covid-19 shut down the hospitality industry it became clear that I was going to have to get a formal education to keep the momentum I had built. I started at Community College of Philadelphia in June of 2020 and came to Temple in January 2022 extremely motivated to learn and grow. I decided to take on MIS as a second major after testing the waters in an introductory class. Learning about data analytics and programming has been especially exciting because I’ve been picking up syntax and logic easily.
